Specialist Programs

Hughes Primary School offers a range of specialist programs designed to enrich students’ educational experiences and foster a diverse set of skills and interests. The key specialist areas include Japanese (LOTE), Physical Education (PE), Library, and Performing Arts. Specialist teachers develop Units of Inquiry that align with the Australian Curriculum and where possible, link to each grade’s Programme of Inquiry.

Japanese (LOTE)

We provide a specialist Japanese language program as our Language other Than English (LOTE). This program aims to introduce students to Japanese language and culture, supporting the development of global citizenship and intercultural understanding. The Japanese program is a core part of the school's commitment to providing a broad, internationally minded curriculum.

Physical Education

Our school’s specialist Physical Education (PE) program focuses on promoting healthy lifestyles and physical wellbeing. Students participate in a variety of activities designed to develop fitness, motor skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The PE program ensures age-appropriate skill development and engagement. Activities range from fundamental movement skills in the early years to more complex games and athletics for older students. The school also hosts events such as athletics carnivals and encourages participation in sports clinics and competitions.

Library

The library at Hughes Primary School fosters a love of reading and supports literacy development. Students have regular access to library and digital resources, and the library remains a central hub for inquiry-based learning, research, and exploration. The program encourages curiosity and independent learning, reflecting the school’s commitment to lifelong learning and literacy.

Performing Arts

The specialist Performing Arts program operates from Kindergarten to Year 6, offering students opportunities to engage in music, dance, drama, and other performing arts disciplines. This program is designed to nurture creativity, self-expression, and confidence. Students participate in a variety of performances and artistic experiences throughout the year, contributing to the vibrant cultural life of the school.

These specialist programs are integral to the Hughes Primary School experience, supporting the development of well-rounded, capable, and confident learners.
